Growing Together: Consensus Building, Smart Growth and Community Change

This film provides instruction and encouragement for communities that are experiencing contentious and divisive battles around issues of growth, development and land use change. It offers an alternative called “consensus-building”, and shows how four communities have incorporated consensus-based principles into their land use decision-making process. Local officials, concerned citizens, and developers speak about how smart growth and brownfields redevelopment can be approached more collaboratively to find successful paths for community change.

Growing Together was produced for the Environmental Finance Center at the University of Southern Maine. It has won a Telly Award and the 2006 Smart Growth Award from the Friends of Midcoast Maine.
